Path Maker Information

Precision ground and hardened 416 Stainless steel (tolerance +/- .0002) for smooth action on folders. Will work with the GTC Bearings and on folders without ball bearings. 5/32" threaded 4-48, 3/16" and 1/4" threaded 6-48. Pivot pin includes 2 plain Torx head screws.

Bearing System Developed and Patented by Gustavo T Cecchini

The Path Maker is used to provide a smooth raceway for the thrust bearing balls to slide along. The Path Maker is used in a drill press to mark the raceway into the blade and liners. This task is performed by setting your drill press at 500 RPM and applying a light down pressure for a few seconds. Check the surface for marking until a circular raceway is visible, then this task is complete. We recommend that you complete this task to the blade before and after heat treat to guarantee the elimination of all tooling marks. You will need a different Path Maker for each bearing size and each pivot size that you use. The final assembly should use new bearings only.

Threaded Pivot Only

GTC 440C stainless steel thrust ball bearings caged in stainless steel retainers developed and patented by Gustavo T. Cecchini's GTC Knives to reduce friction and failures, increase opening time, and easier cleaning. The 100% stainless steel construction eliminates the problems of other thrust bearings that are not 100% stainless. Install by cutting a pocket, with a counterbore, in both the blade and frame. Use one bearing in blade and one in the frame. Some prefer to cut the pocket in both frames, and not in the blade. This is a good solution when the blade is already hardened. Sold Each.

Pivot barrels are threaded 6-48.

The illustration (above left) shows the pocket in the left liner once the procedure has been completed. The first bearing will fit in this pocket. The second pocket should be cut in the blade. In final assembly (see above right), the liner pocket and blade pocket should be facing up when the knife is in the proper position for assembly.

Counterbore & Pilot

There should be a raceway path on each side of a thrust bearing. The illustration above shows the right liner with the raceway path completed. This raceway matches up to the blade pocket

Spinner Galaxy Orchid Turbine 1/4" torx head diameter threaded 6-48. Length .240" overall or .180" under head. Use T7 torx wrench.

Pilot for Counterbores

Quality, high speed steel counterbores used to set your GTC bearing system. Select the counterbore for your chosen size (outside diameter of the bearing). Then choose the pilot to fit the shank diameter of your pivot pin. Proper cutting depths are .050" for all bearings except GC102 with a cutting depth of .066".
